21 Legit Non-Phone Remote Jobs For Moms With Kids Around

Are you looking for a better work situation where you can be home with your kids? The way childcare costs are going, we might as well stay home and take care of our kids. The last time I checked, childcare costs take up damn near 70%+ of our take home pay.

I remember when I looked into childcare, it made no sense to even go to work because by the time payday came around I’d be making $300-$400. So, I thought to myself, “How can I be home with my baby and still bring in income?”

Did you know there are remote jobs where you don’t have to be on the phone at all? I did data entry work while my baby was still a newborn. It worked with my schedule because my baby slept during my work hours and I was home to nurse her during my lunch and breaks.

I couldn’t believe there were jobs that were flexible enough to allow me to be a mom while still bringing home the bacon.

Be Aware Of Scammers

Before I give you the companies that have non-phone remote job openings, I need to give you some warnings. Be careful when you are searching for remote jobs online. These days, there are some shady people who don’t mind taking advantage of other people’s vulnerabilities. They prey on those who are desperate to work from home asap.

Here are 3 things to look for in job postings that can be scams:

1. No Official Company Website

Do your due diligence and research, research, research. You can never do too much digging into a remote job opportunity, especially when it seems too good of an opportunity to be true. Make sure the url they give you is legit and not a similar url to a legitimate company. For instance, if they pretend to be Walmart then they can have a url of “https://wal-mart.com”. But if you pay attention and do your Google research, you’ll see that Walmart’s url is actually “https://walmart.com”.

I like to check out the company website, read through their About Us page, check our their Our Team page if they have one. I look for information about the CEO on the website and on Google. I look for actual business reviews from real users. You can find these reviews on Google Business.

2. Asking For You To Pay Money Upfront

Most remote jobs will not ask you to pay any money in order to start your job. Some exceptions include jobs that require you to provide your own equipment like a laptop and WiFi. In those cases, you will pay for your equipment out of your own pocket.

There is a popular check scam where the scammers tell you that your job will be to: receive checks in the mail, go deposit those checks into your personal bank account, transfer/send the money to the company before the check has officially cleared to your bank. Be very careful for those scams! They are disguised as Virtual Assistant or Data Entry types of jobs.

3. Check The Better Business Bureau

Make sure you look up the company on the Better Business Bureau website. If they are a scam, people will have comments and ratings about their terrible experience with the scam. I’ve been saved by that website many times. Bookmark it and use it as a resource you consistently use in your remote job search.

1. Bookkeeping & Accounting

If financial transactions, budgeting and financial analysis are in your wheelhouse, then bookkeeping and accounting is for you! Help business owners with their accounting and monthly inputs and expenses tracking. Keep in mind that some of these companies will require you to have an Accounting degree, so be sure to read the job descriptions for full requirements.

2. Chat Agents

If you can type fast and multi-task on a computer, then you’ll do great as a Chat Agent! As a Chat Agent, you can provide customer service in the form of Live Chat, Social Media messages, Text Messages, or even Email. Most companies will require high typing speeds and excellent spelling and grammar since you will communicate directly with customers. These positions include part-time, full-time, and contract roles. Some of these companies are even open to worldwide candidates, so look out for location details.

3. Data Entry Clerk

Sometimes, you just want to type without having any contact with customers. This is actually where I started off as a new Work From Home mom. Data Entry includes inputting data from files or Some of the positions may include additional admin services in addition to data entry.

4. Freelance Writer

One of my favorite remote jobs is freelance writing! First, this job is extremely flexible. Second, businesses are always looking for talented writers to write articles, blogs, copywriting, grants, proposals, and so much more. So, there’s no shortage of freelance writing opportunities out there! These are a few of my favorite places to find freelance writing opportunities.

5. Transcriber

If you have a good ear, transcription is a game changer. Transcription involves listening to an audio or video and typing out word-for-word what you hear. There are times when the audio is very hard to understand, which is when experience comes into play. Some companies are entry-level friendly and provide training. This is also a great option for those needing true flexibility to work from anywhere.

These days, working from home is the ultimate dream. It allows us to be home with our kids and our families while still bringing in full time income.

The typical remote jobs that new WFH job seekers usually go for are:

  1. Customer Service

Although these 3 categories can be lucrative if you find the right position with the right company, you tend to make less than you expect.
